I wrote early on about the man, Harvey Updike, that has been accused of poisoning the historic trees at Toomer's Corner at Auburn University. Now Updike seems to be truly sorry for the damage that he has done, not only to the trees, but to the reputation of Alabama fans. Whether his apologies are sincere or he's just sorry because he got caught remains to be seen. Though he never admitted to poisoning the trees, he did admit to being the Finebaum radio show caller, "Al from Dadeville." Updike is now saying that he was attacked by someone while he was tying to get a drink at a courthouse, but he is not accusing his attacker of being an Auburn fan. No doubt will he try to play up his "attack' in court.
