Police Brutality in Birmingham

I have a lot of respect for the Journalist who wrote this article and think that it is a fair representation of how ridiculous and embarrassing the Birmingham Police force is to our city.  We have enough problems as it is trying to portray that our city has rebounded from our cloudy past, which it is slowly doing, without a white cop beating the crap out a black guy.

I have watched this video several times and have noticed that there are a couple of black police officers involved as well so I don't think that this case of brutality has anything to do with race, but it would easily be seen that way to the random outsider.  What I did not know, and what was not mentioned in any of the other reports that I have seen, is the extensive rap sheet that this man has.  I didn't even know what the man was being arrested for from just seeing the video.

What is clear is that this is definitely a case of police brutality.  There is no question that the man being apprehended got out of his car, or whoever's car it is that he stole it from, with his hands in the air giving himself over to the authorities.  There was absolutely no reason for the excessive beating that occurred after the officer already had him on the ground.  There was also no reason for one of the other officers to shove the innocent passerby towards the end of the video.

Saying that Birmingham police officers need more extensive training is just the city's way of saying that they don't give a crap about what happened, they just need something to tell the media until this all blows over.
