Hand Transplants...
It has always amazed me that modern science allows us to take pieces of another human body and make it work for someone else. Organ transplants I have heard of, I even heard of a lady getting a face transplant, but an entire hand is something new to me. The complexities involved with transferring a hand to a new body, apparently a 14 hour process, have to be unbelievable.
Emily Fennell, from Yuba City, California, lost her hand in 2006 when a car rolled over her and caused doctors to have to amputate. Fennell learned to function normally with only her left hand for six years, but after the birth of her daughter she decided that she could not provide what her daughter needed without both of her hands. She will now go through months of therapy to reteach herself how to use two hands again. She is already able to wiggle her new fingers!
