"Birther Bill" Really...?!
Apparently a number of states are drafting bills that would require presidential candidates to prove their citizenship through numerous documents to be put on the state's ballot. The governor of Arizona recently vetoed a bill that would require candidates to provide, not only a birth certificate but also early baptismal or circumcision records, hospital birth records, postpartum medical records, or other qualifying documents. It would also require candidates to submit affidavits and sworn statements declaring their citizenship and residency for the past 14 years. Apparently 14 other states are considering similar bills, but other than Arizona; Connecticut, Maine, and Maryland governors have already vetoed bills that have made it to their desks.
These bills are obviously targeted at the controversy surrounding President Obama's campaign having to produce a certificate of live birth. What amazes me is that people honestly think that a presidential candidate could actually win an election without having been born in the U.S. I would be embarrassed for any state that actually passes a law like this and I am sure that Dr. Doctor Robert Bently will be the first governor to actually do it...
